Volunteer Team of the Year

Citation for the Hub volunteers

The Hub is a day centre for people who are homeless or have been recently housed.

The volunteers work each morning of the week and they fill in for each other during absences.

Each morning has a team of three volunteers plus one paid worker and the Hub can only open if at least three people are present – so their diligent, regular attendance is vital.

They make hot drinks and toast, cook a hot meal, help fill in forms, chat, listen, care and are infinitely patient and unshakable.

They carry out all the hygiene procedures that are essential for premises that serve food and enable the Hub to get very good marks on hygiene inspections.

They undergo training and work together as a fantastic team, supporting new-comers and making the Hub the friendly, cheerful place it is.

Volunteering at the Hub

Working in the Hub is always good fun and never dull. We warmly welcome new volunteers who will be introduced gradually with a supported probationary period and someone to shadow.
Training and regular meetings all create a full working team who really contribute to something very worthwhile and also enjoy working together.
